Thanks, sorry for my bad english.
take a look at this:

or this:

I also recommend this general guide:

Weapons are pretty small anyway I don't think shading is really needed, cs2d provides a great drop shadow already.
all the guides tell you not to do it that way. and they are god damn right because it looks like SHIT!
you are right that the light in cs2d comes straight from above - but only if the sun is exactly at zenith which only happens once per day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zenith.)
keep in mind that our primary goal is to get nice looking graphics. the shading with a light source from exactly above is simply not suitable for that.
shading adds much detail and highly improves the look of things. I really recommend it for nearly everything. including cs2d weapons.
Thats kinda I did to make my M4A1 Edit to a M4 DiamondD to have shadings...
So your skins will not be Flat as hell!
This is why Shading on Players is hard than weapons
Apache uwu has written
@DC but the light is from above...shouldn't shading be like..

What? THAT SHADING LOOKS AWESOME.
And its named cartoon shading.
this picture is only about the position of the light source and nothing else. and the position of the light source in this picture is bad.
